The Chair of Herefordshire Royal British Legion, Barbara Leeson, invited me to this short service to mark the placing of over 1000 small crosses in an area of lawn in the Lady Arbor Garden to commemorate each of those from the county who gave their lives in conflicts from the 1st World War onwards. The Lord Lieutenant, The Mayor of Hereford and the Chairman of the Herefordshire Council made up the official party.
The service was dignified and moving, with the crosses providing a stark reminder of the sacrifices made. We met the Royal British Legion volunteers who undertook the task of placing the crosses, and others involved afterwards in the Cathedral Tea room. The RBL does a great job supporting veterans and keeping memories alive and deserved the support it gets.
