This may not have been an official High Sheriff event, but I very much enjoyed attending as a Deputy Lieutenant. Ciderlands Herefordshire is a programme or festival aimed at leaving a legacy of events that celebrate and champion cider with the local community, with the Cider Museum its doors 11th October for an evening of music, food and local and international cider sampling.
Organised by Gabe Cook and hosted by Elizabeth Pimblett, the Museum Director, the event brought together cider producers from a wide range of countries, including Germany, Switzerland and New Zealand. Their enthusiasm for cider was impressive, with many products to sample and enjoy, if one was not driving.
The museum, as I saw on a quick private tour, has an historic collection of cider-making equipment and specialist glasses and good displays showing the history of the product. For tourism in Herefordshire, cider is a key ingredient.
