Bob and Bea hosted a lunch in College Hall, The Cloisters, Hereford Cathedral on Tuesday 7th May by kind permission of the Dean. Bob wanted to use this lunch to provide an opportunity for people from businesses, the farming community, Herefordshire Council, Support Services and education from across Herefordshire to meet and exchange views. The weather was perfect and guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the Dean’s garden followed by lunch in the College Hall.
Bob introduced the lunch by welcoming everybody from across the County and then spoke about the importance of the Cathedral to Hereford. He made the point that it is everyone’s responsibility to help maintain the mission, fabric, music and education of the Cathedral for the benefit of future generations. He also talked briefly about the Office of High Sheriff and it’s relevance in the modern world.
Central to Bob’s year as High Sheriff will be his support for the Safer Roads Partnership and their work to improve road safety in the County. After lunch both Rod Reynolds from the Safer Roads Partnership and Neil Hawley from the Institute of Advanced Motorists gave very enlightening talks on the statistics of road accidents in the County and what individuals and companies can do to improve the situation. Especially interesting was their advice for businesses to reduce their insurance and repair costs as well as safeguarding their driving staff and the general public.
It was an enjoyable and enlightening afternoon and gave much food for thought!
