Concert in aid of the Mayor of Ross’s Charity, Papyrus – 12th February 2019

The Mayor of Ross, Cllr. Harry Bramer and his Consort, Marie Ward, organised a concert at the Chase hotel in Ross-on-Wye in aid of his chosen Charity – Papyrus.
Papyrus is a charity aimed at young people who are contemplating suicide, the biggest killer of young people in the UK. The charity aims to engage with those thinking along these lines and steer them away into a positive view of the preciousness of life. It is a charity close to the Mayor’s heart and, sad to relate, we too have recently had to face the reality of the issue with good friends. Here is a link to more information.
We were entertained by some great singing, first by the children of St. Joseph’s Primary School and then Ashfield Park Primary School. We also heard a fine string Quartet from the John Kyrle High School. The music was not simple and the standard was very high. Beautiful.
Much of the programme was provided by the Cantabile Girls Choir, from the Hereford Cathedral School. This choir, under its director. Jo Williamson, is world class. We have heard them a number of times during the year in office and they are a jewel in Herefordshire’s crown. They were the winners of the BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year in 2015. Their programme ranged from baroque, through soul to modern musical, with fine soloists for two of the pieces. Here is a link to their web-site which ahs not been updated for a bit.
