Visit to the Royal National College for the Blind – 22nd January 2019

We visited the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford and were welcomed by Professor Tamar Thompson, the Chair of the Board of Governors and taken around by Mark Fisher, the Principal and Lucy Proctor, the Chief Executive. Earlier in the year, we attended the celebration of the 40th Anniversary since the RNC moved to Herefordshire. Hereford is very proud to host the College which provides further education for the visually impaired that is second to none.  They have great facilities and a dedicated staff so that there seems to be nothing that these young people cannot tackle.

Funding is a big issue. Most of the young people are funded by their own local authority. On many occasions, the students and their parents or carers have to fight to be able to come. In the long run, money is saved but it can be hard to get local funders to see it that way.
