Herefordshire Poppy Appeal Awards 8 May 2014
15/05/2014
By 2014 Major Patrick Darling
Liz Parker, Community Fundraiser , Herefordshire welcomed guests to the Herefordshire Poppy Appeal Awards. The evening started with an impressive and moving presentation from Tom Moreland. Tom is an ex Ulster Defence Regiment Soldier who had fallen on hard times as the result of a breakdown and its associated problems. The Royal British Legion had helped him at a time when he was living in the area of the Haugh woods and had given up hope for a future. He is still being helped by the Legion but is well on the way to regaining his former confidence. He was helped in telling his story by Nicola Goodwin of BBC Hereford and Worcester. The awards presentation was impressive and humbling. So many put so much time and effort into raising funds for this special charity. It is invidious to select award winners from so many; but our hosts The Hereford College of Technology led by Craig Smith had done a fantastic job and raise £14,193.62. The Herefordshire total was £217,021. The Lord Lieutenant, Lady Darnley presented the awards.
