Visit to the Royal National College for the Blind

Bob and Bea paid a wonderful visit to the Royal National College for the Blind in Venns Lane, Hereford on Friday 15th November. They were met by Emma Grobb who introduced them to the Principal, Mrs Sheila Tallon and Professor Tamar Thompson OBE, Chair of the Board of Governors. Bob and Bea were shown around the College and were able to see first hand their fantastic facilities as well as getting the chance to meet some of the teachers and students who gave them a good idea of what is being achieved and what a pleasant and stimulating learning facility is being provided.
The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) is the country’s leading specialist residential college of further education for people with a visual impairment. Over 140 years old, it caters for around 200 learners each year. There are over 60 programmes of study offered to students as well as a wide range of activities available on and off campus.
A multi-million pound campus redevelopment has been completed, ensuring that students have access to the very best facilities. The RNC is home to the England/GB Blind Football Team, who competed in Beijing in 2008 and they opened the world’s first football academy for visually impaired footballers in order to find a new breed of talent to compete in London 2012 and beyond.
The College also offers specialist training and support to businesses, universities and other education providers and specialist professionals working with visually impaired people.
